Hi Gia. Welcome back to Read Your Writes Book Reviews.
Thank you so much.

A lot of things have happened, since you’ve moved from Manhattan to Boggy Creek, Florida. How are you adjusting?
I think I’m adjusting fairly well, all things considered. I still miss things about New York, like autumn, but I’m getting used to things in Florida I never thought I’d be able to live with. As long as I have my bear spray at the ready, I’m even able to cross my yard now. The people of Boggy Creek have really made me feel like I’m home, and my café has become more popular. I even feel like I have a family of sorts now.

That’s good. Why do you feel the need to put on your sleuthing hat and investigate murders?
I think mostly because they involve someone I care about. I’m not sure I’d investigate any murder, and I don’t consider myself particularly adventurous, but I can never turn my back when a friend needs me. Somehow, lately, that seems to land me smack in the middle of murder investigations.

How are things going with you and Hunter Quinn and is your sleuthing an obstacle in your relationship?
Sadly, things are going slower than I’d hoped. Between Hunt’s new position as acting Captain and me trying to get my café running and increase business, neither of us has much time to develop a relationship. Throw in my amateur sleuthing, and everything goes downhill from there. Hunt seems to think the investigating should be left to the police, which I’d be happy to do if said investigations didn’t involve close friends of mine.

In A Cold Brew Killing, your friend Trevor (who I think has a crush on you) is accused of murder. What surprised you most about him and all the events circulating around the story?
Do you really think Trevor has a crush on me?

I do.
Hmm…I hadn’t really thought about him that way, though we did try one date early on. I think we make better friends. What surprised me most about Trevor? Pretty much everything, if I’m being honest. I’ve always thought of Trevor as kind of innocent, you know? A little goofy and clumsy but a genuinely sweet guy. Finding out where he lives, what skeletons have been buried in his closet, and how his past has influenced his life all came as a shock. But seeing him outright defy Hunt during routine questioning was probably the biggest shock of all.

When you aren’t investigating murders, what do you like to do?
I enjoy kayaking with Trevor through the mangroves. It’s so peaceful and relaxing. I never expected to enjoy the Florida wildlife so much, from the relative safety of my kayak, of course. I also love spending time with Thor, Savannah, and Hunt, whenever we can manage it.

What do you think about your creator Lena Gregory?
That’s a great question! Overall, we get along great, but she can be a bit stubborn. Sometimes, no matter how much I try to tell her what direction my story should head, she has her own ideas. She knows I’m always going to get my way in the end, so I don’t know why she even bothers trying. Just between us, I think she wants to feel like she’s in charge, even though we both know better.

Lol. What’s next for you?
I’ve pretty much decided Boggy Creek is now home. The people here are amazing, and I consider many of them family now. It would break my heart to leave. I’d love to see my café really take off, and I’m considering hiring another waitress, at least part time. And it seems I have a wedding to help plan.

Gia, thank you so much for your time.
Thank you! It’s always a pleasure to visit with you.
