Reid Durand isn't here to make friends.
Coming from a legacy of hockey greatness, he has games to win and things to prove. With his focus during his first season as a Chicago Rebel on his drive to succeed, every vice is off the table. No booze, no sugar, and definitely no women.
Kennedy Clark is the master of the side hustle.
She'll walk your dog, brew your espresso, and pick up your dry-cleaning, all while rocking it in Warrior pose. Standing still is impossible for her, because the moment she starts to slow down, it'll come rushing back in a torrent. The memories. The pain. The heartbreak.
Their meet-cute is more of a freeze-cute. Besides, they already know each other. He's the rude, entitled customer at her coffee shop, or what used to be her coffee shop since she just got fired—because of Mr. Extra Shot Americano himself.
Reid didn't intend to get Kennedy fired.
He didn't intend to rescue a dog after the poor thing ended up in the lake.
And he definitely didn't intend to acquire a new roommate.
A curvy, chatty, tempting roommate.
Now this perfect storm of events are about to wreak havoc on his neatly-ordered life.
Reid Durand isn't here to make friends, and he's certainly not here to lose his heart to a puppy, a team, or a chaos agent like Kennedy. But then we don't always get what we want ...
Dear Roomie is the fifth book in Kate Meader’s Rookie Rebels series and the eleventh in the Chicago Rebels world. But don’t be alarmed, Dear Roomie is a standalone read, and a part of the story takes place at the same time as the previous book, Foreplayer.
Reid Durand is the newest member of the Chicago Rebels hockey team. Actually, at this point, he’s more like a visitor. The Rebels are Reid’s fourth team in five years. One of the benefits of this stop is that being in Chicago allows Reid to be in the same city as his younger brother Bastian, who plays for the Rebels crosstown rivals. While Reid loves his brother, he desperately wants to prove to his hockey legend father and the Rebels organization that he’s good, that he belongs, and that he deserves a long-term contract.
Kennedy Clark is a woman who wears multiple hats. She works at a coffee shop as a barista, she’s a dog walker, and she teaches yoga to senior citizens. She’s a drifter who for the past six years has traveled the world. Kennedy doesn’t like to stay in one place too long. While she’s friendly and outgoing, she doesn’t make deep connections with people.
I knew from Foreplayer that Reid was special. I just didn’t know how special he truly was. When I figured out Kennedy was his heroine, I remember thinking that I wasn't sure about these two. But they're perfect for each other. They both have some family issues, but for VERY different reasons. She appears to be all lite and airy. While he's dark and gloomy. Their back and forth banter is fun and entertaining. When they finally get together, their passion for each other comes through. Oh, and there's a dog added to the mix, rescued from a freezing lake by Reid.
There's a reason why Kate Meader is one of my favorite authors. I really can't explain it. She has this ability to just capture my heart with her characters and make me lose myself to her stories. I really, really hope Reid's brother Bastian gets a story. He's a nice guy. He worked his way into my heart just like Theo (Instacrush) did, the moment he appeared on the page.

Originally from Ireland, Kate Meader cut her romance reader teeth on Maeve Binchy and Jilly Cooper novels, with some Harlequins thrown in for variety. Give her tales about brooding mill owners, oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron, a fire hose, or a hockey stick, and she's there. Now based in Chicago, she writes sexy contemporary romance with alpha heroes and strong heroines (and heroes) who can match their men quip for quip.
