Now the Great North Pack has relegated Julia to the care of the wolf at the very bottom of the Pack hierarchy, Arthur Graysson. Wolf In the Shadows is the fifth and final book in Maria Vale’s Legend of All Wolves Series. It’s a continuation of the previous books so you would be very lost at this point if you haven’t read the other ones. There is also some overlap in the timeline from the previous book, Season of the Wolf, which could be confusing.

This time we learn about a different type of werewolf, one that is feared by both man and wolf. His name is Arthur Graysson. He is very gentle on the surface but underneath his calm exterior lives a werewolf that can become unhinged and very hard to control. Couple that with the fact that Arthur has fallen for Julia Martel who is one of the nefarious shifters that he is now tasked with watching over in order to protect the Great North Wolves. Julia is a spoiled rich girl who has no idea how to live without the comforts of her former human life and all of the fancy things that she had become accustomed to. Arthur, on the other hand, hasn’t really interacted with someone outside of the pack so they both learn a lot from each other. Because they are so different, they truly complement each other. Their relationship was very intriguing and unexpected. As they get to know each other, another threat to the pack is brewing that they must confront together. There is plenty of action but you really have to pay attention to understand how it all unfolds.

I really enjoyed this book. It was unpredictable and just added more layers to the definition of family and pack. I also loved that the author does such a great job of bringing characters from the previous books into every new book. This series has always been a very fascinating depiction of werewolves that really makes you respect them and not see them as monsters at all. Oddly enough, the Shifters tend to be more of the monsters than the Wolves but you can make that judgment for yourself. I think that this was a fitting end to the series although I will miss The Pack and all of their brutal honesty.
