Blue Lake is covered in snow on a dark December night, but something is amiss. In this cozy Christmas short story, Lena London and Camilla Graham (from the best-selling Writer's Apprentice mysteries) are on hand to help solve the disappearance of a Blue Lake girl. In order to bring the lost teen home safely, they must work together with their squad of friends to piece together a puzzle. As usual, a cat, two dogs, two policemen, and many colorful locals make an appearance in this cozy Christmas tale.
I can not begin to express how much I love Julia Buckley and her cozy mysteries. I became a fan of hers a couple of years ago, and she never lets me down. To date, I’ve read three of her cozy mystery series; Undercover Dish, A Writer’s Apprentice, and A Hungarian Tea House. While I’ve loved and enjoyed all the books and series, A Writer’s Apprentice is my favorite of all the series.
In A Dark and Silent Night, Julia gifts her readers with a little Christmas mystery. Fans of her A Writer’s Apprentice series will love this novella. Mystery author Camilla Graham and her husband Adam are hosting a couples game night with her writing partner/apprentice Lena, Lena’s boyfriend Sam, as well as friends; Detectives Doug Heller and Cliff Blake and their girlfriends Belinda and Isabelle. The Couples decide they don’t really want to do the standard game night games. “Let’s see what nefarious deeds are happening in Blue Lake on this December night.” The couples get more than they bargain for, when they start reviewing the crime blotter, looking for recent crimes to solve. They come across a report of a missing teen, but something feels off. Together they piece together clues that only they seem to know in order to solve this disappearance.
A Dark and Silent Night is short and sweet. Yet, it gives you everything you need in a mystery.
